Fundraising with the Cooke & Mason group
As a group we have always been keen supporters of fund-raising activities for charitable causes. In addition to the usual Red Nose and "dress code" days our staff have completed a number of charity challenges including tackling a 62 mile walk in May 2010 and rowing the English Channel (sort of) in January 2011 and February 2012.
Rowing The Channel In Aid Of The Nomad Trust
On the 4th Feb 2012 our Retford and Lincoln offices entered teams on the Nomad Trusts annual 35km ‘Row the Channel’ charity challenge.
17 teams descended on the Priory City of Lincoln Academy for the endurance race to raise money for the Nomad Trust, a charity that has be helping the homeless in Lincoln for over 25 years. In keeping with the charitable spirit of the day our teams elected to let someone else finish first coming in at a respectable 4th and 6th, in a time of 2 hours 10 minutes and 2 hours 15 minutes respectively.
Early indications show the event managed to raise over £6,000 for the charity with the final figure still to be confirmed.
Well done to all teams that entered the event.

June 2011 - Race for Life
All 24 members (plus Herbert the Labrador) of Cooke & Mason’s Race for Life team successfully completed the Clumber Park 5km Race for Life on Sunday 12 June.
Thank you to clients, insurers and staff whose kind support and generosity raised £3,500 for Cancer Research UK which, we are sure you will agree, is a tremendous achievement.
January 2011 - Rowing the English Channel
In January 2011 a small team took part in an event to row across the English Channel, a 35km distance.
In fact we never left dry land; the race took place in the Riverside Shopping Centre in Lincoln, using rowing machines linked to a projected screen to display your position. Overall there were 11 teams that took part, with crew numbers ranging from 4 to 10 – all competing on behalf of “The Nomad Trust”, a Lincoln charity helping the homeless.
The event was a great success and raised over £3,000 for a very worthy cause. At the end our crew could even manage a smile – of sorts!
May 2010 - 100km trek
After weeks of planning a team of 11 set out for a fund raiser that would push their stamina to its limits. The aim was to complete 100km in 24 hours, a task which would involve hiking through the night and only stopping for essential breaks.
The challenge started and ended in Skipton with the route taking them through large parts of the Yorkshire dales, an area renowned for its natural beauty, that is unless you went on the same day as our team who found it to be an area renowned for its heavy rain, dense fog and thick mud.
After 32km the team found themselves at the peak of Pen-y-ghent, the rain had stopped falling, electing instead to travel horizontally aided by some strong winds, and the team lost a few members to injury with the rest forging on into the evening.
From the team who originally set out that morning only 5 managed to complete the full 100km but they managed to raise almost £2000 for charity with it being split between the NSPCC and Bassetlaw Hospice.
